The canonical, less-than-255-characters description of TM is:
TraderMissions is a top-down 2D space RPG game, in the spirit of
Escape Velocity and Tradewars.
But of course, the main page told you that. You've come to this
page to get a bit more detail, so...
What can I do with TraderMissions?
- Start with nothing Most scenarios will start you out at
the beginning of a lucrative, but deadly, career. As the captain
of your ship, your fate is in your hands.
- Work your way ahead Trade between planets independantly to
build your fortune. Take missions from rival factions. Become a
pirate and prey on the weaker.
- Get caught up by the universe Events are happening that
are beyond your control: War is threatening between the colonies
and the remnants of old earth; the Nakaira have returned from the
battlegrounds of old. It seems you are powerless to intervene,
but fate has other plans.
- Emerge Victorious Settle disputes through wisdom or
force, discover the ruins of ancient Earth, and overthrow the
chains of the enslavers. Or simply replace the current rulers
with yourself.
And while that sounds really nice, it's not much on the specifics,
so....
What are some notable features of the TM engine?
- Varied Economics - Ships, addons, weapons, trading
supplies: all can be priced differently and have different
options. No two ports need be alike!
- Automated mission system - Missions can be generated
with randomly chosen cargoes and destinations with little author
intervention.
- Plain-text data format - The scenarios, plugins, and
savegames are all in plain text. No special authoring tools
required.
